Ring Re-sizing

At VAHE Jewellery we can resize rings of all styles and precious metals including silver, gold & platinum. Besides resizing both new and old jewellery, we can also assess your items to determine if additional work needs to be done and can give you a free no-obligation quote. Our expert staff will size your finger onsite so that it is exactly the right size for you. Ring sizing involves a variety of factors that need to be considered to ensure the ring fits properly.

Questions and Answers

  • Approximately how long does it take to resize a ring?

Our turnaround time for resizing most rings is 5 working days. In some cases, it may take longer for more complex work. We also offer an expedition service for resizing rings within the hour while you wait, but this comes with an additional charge.

  • What is the cost of re-sizing a ring?

Our pricing starts at $60.00, depending on the precious metal (silver, gold, platinum, etc.) and the number of sizes that change. We also polish and clean every piece resized, and if necessary, plating with Rhodium.

  • Can my ring be re-sized if it has diamonds or gemstones?

We can resize rings with diamonds and gemstones as well. After resizing the ring, we will also make sure the stones are still securely set.

Rhodium Plating

The white gold jewellery, and, in some cases, silver jewellery, is coated in a precious metal called rhodium. The rhodium provides your white gold jewellery with a bright white appearance. In fact, even white gold can develop a slight yellow tint when its rhodium coating wears off. If your white gold jewellery has become a little dull, you need to have it rhodium coated again. To ensure your white gold jewellery remains crisp and white, we recommend having it rhodium plated every 6-12 months.

Questions and Answers

  • Is it necessary to rhodium plate my jewellery regularly?

Our recommendation is to rhodium plate your jewellery every six to twelve months. It might be better to do it sooner if you wear your jewellery all the time.

  • How much does it cost to rhodium plate my jewellery?

The price starts at $80.00 and is determined by the size of the item.

  • What kind of jewellery can be plated with rhodium?

Almost anything can be rhodium plated! Rhodium plating is typically used on white gold jewellery. Rhodium is also applied to some silver jewellery.

  • Does it matter if my ring has both white and yellow gold?

By protecting the yellow gold with a special substance, you can rhodium plate only the white gold portions of your jewellery.

Restoring & Re-Tipping Claws

Over the course of time, we tend to damage our rings unintentionally. As a result of wear and tear, a diamond or gemstone in your ring may become loose and even fall out as the metal corrodes around them. Since diamonds and gemstones are highly delicate objects, it is extremely important to ensure that the claws that hold them in place are maintained in a structurally sound manner.

Questions and Answers

  • When a claw is re-tipped, what happens?

Whenever claws need to be repaired, we examine them thoroughly, add wires, and use solder where necessary. For more challenging re-tips, we use laser technology.

  • What are the signs that I need to re-tip my claws?

The claws begin to catch on things, they become rough to the touch, and they no longer look like the other claws. Depending on the design, some claws will get damaged faster than others because they are more exposed. Wear and tear of claws is part of loving your jewellery, but they can easily be repaired by a master jeweler.v
